Activity details
Meet up at 7:30 to set off at 8:00 at the latest (the captain knows how to be punctual for this so he can get you to Petite Terre in the best of conditions)
It will only take 40 to 45 minutes to get to the islands of Petite Terre. Before you get there, you will go and see the dolphins if the conditions are favorable. When you get to Petite Terre, you will get a short briefing about the rules that you must follow on the island (protected reserve).
The morning is dedicated to the discovery of the accessible part of the island by following the path organized by the ONF more or less. Many signs summarize the most important elements regarding the local wildlife and plants. You will also find a mini museum at the bottom of the lighthouse that recaps the island’s history.
If meeting one of the island’s 12,000 iguanas doesn’t tempt you, you can always go explore the lagoon’s sea beds and look for the turtles, rays, harmless little lemon sharks, and other tropical fish that inhabit them.
At around 12:30, once the table is nicely set, the barbecue meal will be served by your captain. Assorted vegetables (cucumber, carrots, tomatoes, salad) will complete a portion of rice and fish or chicken (make your choice during the booking process) depending on your preferences. Your host will then let you go and serve yourself and take advantage of his meal where wine will also be offered.
This flavorsome meal will be crowned with flambéed bananas and pineapples for dessert, followed by a nice coffee (served with caramelized coconut sugar) and a home-made vanilla rum.
While some people will already be leaving Petite Terre, you will have all of the time in the world to take advantage of the lagoon’s beauty, searching for a turtle or a ray that you may not have seen before. Fins, masks, and snorkels are always provided for you to go snorkeling.
At around 16:30, after going on one last trip to see turtles and dolphins, the Fish’On will go back to its home port in Saint-François. Quick crossing on the waves for one last moment of delight with the last rays of sunshine sparkling on the sea and a sunset on Basse Terre to your left, the majestic island of La Désirade to your right, and La Pointe des Châteaux facing you.
