Activity details

Marchés aux épices - Basse Terre

Plage de Malendure - Bouillante

Between 8:00 and 8:30 in the morning, depending on the pick-up time, your professional guide, Gilles, will come and pick you up from your holiday resort for a tour of South Basse Terre, which is everything at once, wild, cultural, and authentic land.

The pick-up locations included in the price of the trip are:

  • The airport
  • The Bergevin ferry terminal in Pointe à Pitre
  • All of the communes in Basse Terre (Cities in Grande Terre will cost extra)

First step: the discovery of the La Soufrière volcano. When you get to les bains jaunes at the bottom of La Soufrière, renowned for their thermal sulfur water, you will go for an easy, 30-minute walk (stair path) through the Pas du Roy path to get to the Savane à mulets. You will be at an altitude of 1,140 meters and a wonderful view of the volcano, its valley, and the surrounding islands awaits.

When you get back to les bains jaunes, you can go for a dip in the pool of warm sulfur water for a few deserved moments of relaxation after your little hike.

You will then leave the “old lady” (La Soufrière’s nickname) to go and discover the capital, Basse-Terre, and its colonial architecture. There, you can immerse yourself in the spice markets and stalls at the heart of the local population.

Bains de Thomas

Your journey carries on with a tour of a local distillery. At Vieux Habitants, you will get to have a meal at a local restaurant for around 20€ per person.

You will then go back up to Bouillante for an afternoon centered around the sea. You will discover the Bains de Thomas: a natural basin which is a warm spring that is cooled down by the sea.

Depending on how much time is left, you can go and discover the Cousteau reserve on a glass-bottomed boat from the Malendure beach.

When going back up to North Basse Terre, you will stop at the heart of the tropical forest at the Cascade aux Ecrevisse for a dip in fresh, clear water.

Please note that you can replace the tour of the capital or the Malendure beach and its nautical activities with a tour of a banana plantation with a cart ride on the premises upon request (for an additional fee).
