Half-day snorkelling trip: islets and mangroves – Grand Cul-de-Sac

An unusual excursion that will take you from Petit Cul-de-Sac Marin to Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin, via the mangrove swamp of the Salée River. This half-day trip will allow you to discover the islets and unspoilt areas of this magnificent region. With Brice at the helm – an enthusiast who knows the Grand Cul-de-Sac like the back of his hand, and whose boat can go anywhere – you won’t be disappointed!

Meet at 7.45 am at the Bas-du-Fort marina to board this Neptune-type barge. Once the final preparations are complete, we’ll weigh anchor and set off at 8 am sharp! From the very first few kilometres of the excursion, you’ll be in for a treat. After a few minutes’ sailing, you’ll head up the Salée River to admire its mangroves. Brice will be delighted to explain the workings of this fascinating ecosystem to you. You’ll then emerge into the Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin and head for the coral reef or the shipwreck – one of the reserve’s best diving spots – for a short snorkelling session. The exceptionally clear water will allow you to easily spot the many species of fish that have made their home in the wreck of a ship lying just a few centimetres below the water’s surface.

After this first, already action-packed part of the trip, it’s time for a short break to recharge your batteries for what lies ahead. The captain will serve you an aperitif on board the boat, consisting of planteur, ti-punch, various fruit juices and peanuts near Îlet La Biche, another of the Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin’s attractions: a cluster of semi-submerged mangrove islets right in the middle of the lagoon.

You will then make a leisurely return to the marina, where you’ll be docked by 1 pm.
