The experience

Set off to discover and observe cetaceans on a catamaran or speedboat. Dolphins, whales, sperm whales and pilot whales are commonly found in the waters around the Guadeloupe archipelago. Highly educational trips. Malendure Rock – Bouillante

This operator established whale-watching activities on the leeward coast of Guadeloupe as a form of whale-watching ecotourism. Aware of the risks of disturbing cetaceans, this operator has been working since 1998 to regulate the activity.

This initiative led to the adoption of a code of conduct in 2002, designed to enable the observation of cetaceans and marine life in Guadeloupe:

  • under the safest possible conditions for those on board, whilst respecting the cetaceans and their natural habitats,
  • providing relevant knowledge and information on the species, their behaviour and conservation issues,
  • whilst assessing the impacts on cetaceans and the environment in order to avoid or minimise them as far as possible.

Our team invites you to join them in experiencing the ever-magical moments with Guadeloupe’s cetaceans and marine environment, with 24 species to be spotted, such as the sperm whale, which can be seen all year round, and various species of small cetaceans, including the pantropical spotted dolphin and Fraser’s dolphin. The migratory humpback whale visits Guadeloupe’s waters from January to May. The trip lasts approximately 3 hours.

The boat you’ll be travelling on will depend on the number of passengers booked. You’ll therefore board either the 34-passenger catamaran or a 10-passenger speedboat. The motor catamaran is a safe vessel certified for passenger transport, in excellent condition and meeting high environmental standards. It features a covered area particularly suitable for families and groups (capacity: 34 passengers)... The scientific team, accompanied by the crew – the captain and his deckhand – will welcome you to ensure you have the best possible sightings whilst respecting the cetaceans and their natural habitats. Accessible scientific guidance (educational resources) is provided in French and English by an organisation specialising in the study, census and protection of sea turtles and cetaceans. The speedboat is a locally built “Bessarion”, perfectly suited to cetacean research and designed to minimise environmental impact thanks to its latest-generation engines.
