The experience
Set off to encounter Guadeloupe’s cetaceans, departing from the jetty at Malendure Beach. Two departures a day with a passionate crew who will guide you on a three-hour excursion along the Leeward Coast, in small groups and in a friendly atmosphere.
Pantropical spotted dolphin, Fraser’s dolphin, common dolphin, sperm whale, pilot whale, humpback whale… over twenty species of cetaceans have been recorded in the French West Indies and can be spotted throughout the year. Humpback whales frequent the coast of Guadeloupe from December to May, with the highest numbers seen from March to April. You’ll also have the chance to spot other wildlife such as flying fish, turtles and various bird species (frigatebirds, pelicans, brown noddies, terns…), which serve as indicators for locating cetaceans. On board the boat, a high-quality hydrophone is used to maximise the chances of finding and observing the cetaceans. The hydrophone is also connected to a speaker, allowing passengers to hear the sounds made by the cetaceans (clicks, whistles, songs, etc.). The route at sea is planned according to the specific characteristics of the seabed off Guadeloupe’s Leeward Coast and the behaviour of the cetaceans, further maximising the chances of encountering them.
