Mangrove Walk and Paddleboard Trip to a Small Island

This excursion in the Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin is designed to be accessible. Mat will be delighted to introduce beginners to the basics and the joys of stand-up paddleboarding at Babin Beach, a peaceful haven far from the busy tourist trails. Once this short lesson is over, we’ll head for Macou Islet whilst paddling alongside the mangroves. Standing on your board, you’ll enjoy a privileged view of the marine life, which is easily visible thanks to the crystal-clear water. With a smile on his face, Mat will explain the astonishing richness and complexity of the Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin ecosystem. You’ll learn about the three main roles of the mangrove: a nursery for the various species that live there, a natural filter for the surrounding waters, and protection against storms. Stand-up paddleboarding also allows you to venture into narrow channels, inaccessible by boat, to discover the beauty of the very heart of the mangrove forest. This excursion will take you through natural tunnels formed by mangrove galleries. After this tour through the heart of the Grand Cul-de-sac Marin mangrove forest, there’ll be a short stop on a tiny beach for some homemade lemonade. During this break, you can take a dip and enjoy the crystal-clear water. After this refreshing break, the tour of the area around Macou Islet continues across the translucent water. You can easily make out the seabed and the many species that inhabit it: fish of all kinds, rays, starfish, crabs, corals and even sea cucumbers. This stand-up paddleboarding trip is also an opportunity to spot a wide variety of bird species, including pelicans, great egrets, herons and frigatebirds.
