The experience

This hike in the Cousteau Reserve offers you a superb outing full of discoveries. Over the course of two hours, you’ll visit three magnificent sites that are home to an underwater fauna as rich as it is diverse. And as well as seeing the fish and corals of the Cousteau Reserve up close, you’ll have the privilege of spotting the turtles in Malendure Bay. Everything comes together to create a truly unforgettable experience!

For this snorkelling excursion, you can choose from three different departure times: 8.45 am, 11.00 am and 2.30 pm. In all three cases, the excursions last two hours and begin with a short briefing. The areas you’ll be visiting are indeed fragile, so it’ll be necessary to take precautions during the excursion. All this will be explained by your instructor for the day, a marine biology specialist. After being issued with high-quality diving and flotation equipment, you’ll set off for two hours of pure bliss. The first stop on this three-stage excursion will be at the ‘Japanese Garden’, a pre-coral reef at the foot of volcanic cliffs which serves as a nursery for fish. As you dive into the crystal-clear water, you’ll discover this little paradise where the colourful fish – for which the Cousteau Reserve is renowned – begin their lives. You’ll also be able to enjoy watching the pelicans perform their acrobatic manoeuvres amongst schools of blue-striped snapper. You’ll even be able to swim amongst these schools, experiencing an incredible sensation. After this fascinating first visit, we’ll head to another underwater paradise: the “Coral Garden” at the Pigeon Islets. The name alone speaks volumes about what you’ll see at this site, considered the heart of the Cousteau Reserve: a wealth of diverse corals, with excellent visibility to better admire their colours and beauty. The seabed here is undoubtedly amongst the most beautiful in Guadeloupe, if not the most beautiful of all. For “dessert”, we’ll then treat you to a visit to the “Turtle Garden”, a haven of peace for green turtles. Located in Malendure Bay, this site allows you to observe the turtles in complete tranquillity. Your guide’s advice will help you maximise the number of turtles you see whilst minimising your impact on their environment. Younger children can enjoy the experience thanks to the inflatable boards provided by the team. After two hours of snorkelling in idyllic surroundings, you’ll head back to Malendure Beach. To round off your excursion, you’ll be served a planteur cocktail and fruit juice so you can share your experiences in a completely relaxed atmosphere. A brilliant way to round off a fantastic excursion in style!
