Land/Sea Tour of Désirade or Petite Terre/Désirade – Guide to Désirade

A unique experience! That’s undoubtedly the best way to sum up this excursion, which will give you the chance to visit two idyllic sites in a single trip: Petite-Terre, an unspoilt island with authentic charm, and La Désirade, known for its vertiginous cliffs. And who better to show you around than a fisherman born and bred on the island of La Désirade? With his in-depth knowledge of La Désirade and the region, you’re in for an unforgettable day… David, your skipper and guide, will be waiting for you at the crack of dawn at the fishing harbour in Saint-François, where his speedboat – which can accommodate 12 passengers – is moored. After a warm welcome and the necessary preparations, you’ll set off on a swift and safe crossing to La Désirade and Petite Terre, thanks to his extensive sailing experience gained during his many years as a fisherman. Depending on the day chosen for the excursion, the first island visited will vary: on Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays, we’ll head for Petite Terre first, followed by La Désirade in the afternoon; on Fridays and Sundays, we head for La Désirade in the morning, followed by Petite Terre in the afternoon. The itinerary remains the same on each island; only the order changes. At Petite Terre, the excursion is devoted to exploring the island – particularly its lighthouse – as well as snorkelling. This will be an opportunity to discover flora and fauna virtually untouched by human activity, to enjoy the beautiful beach and crystal-clear water for a refreshing swim, and to encounter the various marine species for which the island is renowned: lemon sharks, rays and turtles. On La Désirade, you can choose between a tour of the village and its craft shops, or a more in-depth tour of other places of interest (at an additional cost). In any case, David will help you learn a little more about La Désirade and its cultural treasures: as a native of La Désirade, he loves talking about his island and sharing his knowledge and anecdotes. Lunch is served on one of La Désirade’s most beautiful beaches, Fifi Beach: with your feet in the sand, you’ll be treated to a La Désirade-style aperitif followed by a local meal of the day’s catch cooked over a wood fire, in the shade of a carbet specially set up by David. After the meal, there’s time to relax or go snorkelling to enjoy this magnificent spot a little longer, before heading back to Saint-François at the end of the day. Children under 3 and pregnant women are not permitted to take part in this excursion, and the boat will only set sail with a minimum of 8 passengers on board.
