Les Saintes, that enchanting little archipelago to the south of Guadeloupe, is often visited on a fly-by… but those who stay for a few nights discover one of the most peaceful and authentic places in the whole of the Caribbean.

Stay for at least two nights… and let the magic happen

Sunset in Les Saintes

Once the last shuttle buses have left, the island slows down. Calm returns. It’s the perfect time for a sunset cocktail in one of the seaside bars, setting the perfect mood for the evening.

Get up early: the island is even more beautiful in the early morning

Colourful boats at Les Saintes in the early morning

Getting up early allows you to avoid the intense heat, enjoy the golden light – which is ideal for photography – and explore the island on foot or by e-bike at a leisurely pace. Bonus tip: visit Pain de Sucre beach early in the morning to enjoy complete freedom, before the crowds arrive.

Explore the seabed in a different way

Seabed near Pain de Sucre, Les Saintes

Head to Pain de Sucre by kayak, or join a local boat trip to discover hidden coves, unspoilt coral reefs and schools of colourful fish.

Sample the local flavours (for real)

Terre-de-Bas, Les Saintes

Don’t miss the ‘tourments d’amour’ (pastries filled with coconut, banana or guava), and make a detour to the Eugénette restaurant in Terre-de-Bas for authentic Creole cuisine. Terre-de-Bas is, in fact, wilder and more authentic than its neighbour, Terre-de-Haut.

Combine nature and culture

Fort Napoléon and Morne du Chameau, Les Saintes

Climb to the summit of Morne du Chameau for a view of one of the world’s most beautiful bays, recognised by UNESCO. You can also visit Fort Napoléon (open in the mornings only) to explore its military history, cacti and local iguanas.

Other handy tips

Book your accommodation in advance (demand is high in peak season). Hire an e-bike, a scooter or a small car to explore the island’s hills. And above all, embrace the slow, gentle pace of life on Les Saintes.
