Bustling with people from the very first light of day, Morne-à-l'Eau will immerse you in the heart of local life. As you walk through this little village, you can’t help but admire its black-and-white ‘domino’ or ‘checkerboard’ cemetery, cascading down into the centre of town. It is one of Guadeloupe’s curiosities.
Morne-à-l'Eau is the crab capital. Whether by sea mountain bike or kayak, you can discover the magic of the mangrove forest, an exceptional site frequented by land crab fishermen, from whose catch the people of Guadeloupe prepare delicious, flavourful dishes. The Rotours Canal is a starting point for the wonderful Grand-Cul-De-Sac-Marin nature reserve. Wildlife, flora and islets await you!
In Vieux-Bourg, the magnificent lake offers peaceful and enjoyable water-based and boating activities. Nearby, the Grands-Fonds – once a refuge for the Blancs Matignons – offer a breathtaking spectacle of chasms and unfathomable ravines, such is the density of the natural landscape there.
