Details of activities in Grand Bourg
Grand-Bourg is particularly renowned for its rum distilleries and its sugar cane cultivation, which can be seen on every street corner. So, whilst you’re in the area, do visit the Poisson estate and the Bielle distillery, two industrial distilleries producing Marie-Galante’s renowned agricultural rums. You’ll discover how rum is made, and of course, you’ll be able to taste it!
The Murât plantation is a former 19th-century sugar plantation which hosts the annual Marie-Galante International Blues Festival, renamed ‘Terre de Blues’ for the occasion.
Come and discover the island of 1,000 carts! The managers of a certified farm welcome you to explore Marie-Galante’s traditional skills through the ages, as well as its historic sites. An eco-museum houses pre-Columbian artefacts and other remains from the region.
On the seaside, a small, friendly diving centre in Grand-Bourg offers introductory dives, courses for beginners and underwater excursions for more experienced divers.
