Bailiff
To the south-west of Basse-Terre lies the peaceful and welcoming village of Baillif. It offers a tranquil and exotic setting, far from the hustle and bustle. That said, Baillif is by no means lacking in points of interest and attractions, both historical and tourist-oriented. Threatened by the English 200 years ago, a defence tower was erected there by the Dominican priest Jean-Baptiste Labat.

Details of activities in Baillif
If you enjoy sport and are close to nature, the villages of Basse-Terre, such as Baillif, are just the place for you. Far from mass tourism, you can enjoy water sports at sea or on the river, such as diving, canyoning or fishing.
If you’re more interested in exploring the flora and fauna of the tropical forests, why not go for a walk in the heart of Guadeloupe National Park? And for those looking to relax, the Matouba waterfalls in the heart of the National Park are just the ticket!
Baillif’s other tourist attractions lie in its historical features. With over 200 years of history, it has been home to Dominican monks since the 17th century, including Father Labat, who is known for his writings. A rum is named after him, as is the Baillif defence tower.
Local events
- Baillif Festival (early August)
