Baie Mahault, Guadeloupe’s most populous town, has always been a land of sugar cane. Sugar cane remains the region’s main crop. For lovers of Creole culture, there is a traditional Creole hut to explore in a setting renowned for its beauty.
Formerly a favourite port for privateers and buccaneers due to its ideal location at the junction of the two islands, Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre, Baie Mahault opens out onto three bays and is a popular spot for water sports and other aquatic activities. A jetty on the outskirts of the village, situated on the edge of the lagoon, serves as the departure point for boat trips to explore the islets of the Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin. A specialist company offering electric-powered sea and river cruises will enable you to explore the mangrove swamp.
